Showing Appreciation for Seniors

Showing Appreciation for Seniors
Jun 3, 2020
As we continue to celebrate Seniors Week from June 1st to 8th, in this blog, we would like to highlight some ways to show appreciation for seniors. Before social distancing became a practice, you may have shown appreciation by giving hugs or hosting a dinner at your home. Unfortunately, with seniors being more vulnerable to illness like COVID-19, this is a good time to get creative, shift our mindset and think of other thoughtful, socially distant ways to show our appreciation. -Stay connected through technology:
  • Catch up over Skype, FaceTime or Zoom
  • Send an email
  • Share your appreciation through a Facebook or social media post
-Reach out to neighbors or family close by and see if they would like help with an errand or a chore, like walking the dog, taking out the trash or picking up groceries. -Celebrate inter-generational learning. Ask a senior to teach you something new! With age comes experience, and there is always something new to learn about. -Send a handwritten card or letter. Something about snail mail is so thoughtful, and anyone would appreciate receiving a personal message. -Drop off a homemade meal or send a meal using a delivery service like Skip The Dishes. -Make a care package with items like books, puzzles and photos. Hopefully this list has given you some simple ways that you can help seniors every day. Head over to our Facebook page and let us know in the comments if you try any of these ideas!
