On October 3rd, we will celebrate Ostomy Awareness Day. This actually marks one decade of Ostomy Awareness Day - the first annual celebration was in 2010! Ostomy Awareness Day is an important day for ostomates and non-ostomates alike to talk about ostomies and end the stigma surrounding life with a stoma. Stoma surgery can be lifesaving and many people report that they feel that they have a much better quality of life following their stoma surgery.
Ostomates across the world will be celebrating Ostomy Awareness Day by:
- posting about their ostomy on Instagram, TikTok and other social media to raise awareness
- sharing their "stoma-versary" story (why and when they decided to get their ostomy) and how it changed their lives
- wearing Stoma Stickers - click here to request your free sticker from Coloplast & click here to request your free sticker from Hollister
- making a donation to Friends of Ostomates Worldwide Canada (FOWC) to continue their life-saving work with ostomates in countries where they are not as well supported. Click here to read our blog highlighting FOWC and find out how you can help.
