How Exercise Can Boost Your Health

How Exercise Can Boost Your Health
Oct 20, 2020
Exercise can be an underrated treatment for many health issues. Daily exercise, whether low impact like yoga or walking, or high-intensity kickboxing or basketball can improve your overall health and reduce the risk of developing health problems in the future. It's also a great way to clear your mind and feel comfortable in your own skin.

Here are some common benefits of being active:

  • Reduced risk of heart attack and type 2 diabetes, lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
  • Lower risk of developing osteoporosis because of strengthened muscles, bones and joints.
  • Feeling better overall! Exercise promotes more energy, a better mood and more consistent sleep pattern. Using your muscles will help you start to feel stronger, which can also have a positive impact on mental well-being.
  • Exercise has also been found to help people with depression because of the release of serotonin (the feel-good hormone) in the brain.
There are a few things to keep in mind if you are just starting out with exercise. First, doing any physical activity is better than none! If can be easy to start out by making small changes throughout your day, such as walking or cycling instead of taking transportation. Go slowly, remember that it is important to build up your fitness and not train too hard. If you have a preexisting medical condition, it is a good idea to consult with your doctor before starting to exercise.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Low impact exercise and stretching are an important part of the breast cancer recovery process, as it helps to maintain flexibility and strength in your upper body. Before beginning an exercise regimen, please remember to consult your doctor, who will give you the go-ahead that you have recovered enough to begin exercising. They may also refer you to a physical therapist who can help create exercises that are right for you. For more information about post-surgical exercises, check out our blog post here.
