At Home with Nightingale

At Home with Nightingale

Bored of the things you normally do at home? So are we. That is why we came up with this list of things to do at home that you may not have thought of yet.

  1. Plant seeds
Find yourself an old planter or order one from your local home improvement store or garden center – and pick up some soil while you’re there. Packs of seeds are available from almost any grocery store, so simply add them to your grocery list for the week. For example, you can start your own small herb garden – look for parsley, dill and thyme seeds to start. Once you plant the seeds, you can add “water plants” to your daily schedule and look forward to the seeds sprouting.
  2. Have a virtual movie night
Send out an e-invite to your friends and family to watch a movie together! Grab yourself some popcorn and a drink, and get everyone to turn on Netflix and start the movie at the same time. Keep your phones on so you can video chat or message during the movie – it almost makes up for not being there in person!
  3. Make cards
You will thank yourself later for this! Think of any holidays that are coming up that you would normally buy a card for someone for. Gather up any art supplies that you have and paper, and get creative! For instance, Mother’s Day is coming up shortly, why not sketch a couple of flowers on the front of a blank card? This way, you have something helpful to do, that will save you money and time in the long term.
  4. Make a scrapbook
Do you have boxes of old photos lying around that you just can’t get the motivation to sort through? Try scrapbooking! You can do a whole scrapbook album or simply one page you can display. Scrapbooking does involve some creativity, so try to use old fabrics, papers of different colours, leftover holiday ribbon, and whatever else you can find to make a collage. It’s also appropriate to write in a scrapbook, so try to write down memories associated with each photo.
  5. Have a theme night
This is especially useful for those with kids who are getting bored of dinner time every night. It doesn’t have to be complicated. For instance, you could pick a beach party theme, make yourself a big summer salad and hot dogs for dinner. Set up beach towels in your living room instead of your dinner table. If you really want to get into it, dress up for the occasion in shorts and sunglasses! Follow this by watching a movie or television show that takes place in a tropical destination. For added value, consider watching a travel documentary that you can take away from.
