Hernia Belt Selection Guide
1. Determine Your Belt Size (Length)
- Measure the girth going straight across the stoma.
- Refer to our Measuring & Fitting Guide to find your size
- Fitting by a NSWOC (Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy, and Continence) is recommended
2. Determine Your Belt Width
- Choose from 16, 20, and 26 cm width options
- Ideally, ensure the belt extends at least 2 cm above the stoma for proper support
- Use a measuring tape to visualize the fit
- If the belt is too wide, it may roll, so consider a narrower option ie. 16 cm
3. With Pouch Opening vs No Opening
- A hernia belt with an opening is generally not necessary for individuals with ileostomies or urostomies
- A hernia belt with an opening may be necessary for individuals with colostomies
- Consult with an NSWOC (Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy, and Continence) if you need personalized advice
4. Select Fabric & Colour
- Available in mesh fabric or regular fabric, choice is based on preference
- Mesh fabric may be slightly cooler in warm weather
- Mesh fabric available in colours: Black or White
- Regular fabric available in colours: Black, White or Beige
