Breast care: Measuring and Fitting Guide

Ensure the perfect fit with our step-by-step guide for measuring and fitting bras after breast surgery. Learn how to choose the right size for comfort and support during your recovery.

Breast Care Measuring and fitting guide

Post-surgery bras are specially designed for recovery, making it vital to choose the right size for optimal support and comfort.

Here are the fitting guidelines:

Post-surgery Bra Fitting Guide:

1. Take your underbust measurement:

Place the measuring tape under your breasts, keeping it flat against your skin. Ensure the tape is level, running horizontally around your torso and maintaining equal height at the front and back. Let your arms rest naturally at your sides and breathe normally during the measurement.

2. Take your bust measurement:

Place the measuring tape horizontally across the fullest part of your breasts, typically at nipple level. Ensure the tape is level across both the front and back, and stand with good posture.

3. Select the Right Size Using the Size Chart:

Check the size chart provided by the brand of the bra.

Breast Form Fitting Guide:

1. Select the Cup Fullness:

Select the appropriate cup fullness according to your remaining breast’s shape: (1) shallow, (2) average, or (3) full.

2. Consider the Shape – Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, or Extra:

In general, a symmetrical form works well after a standard mastectomy, and an asymmetrical breast form is recommended for those who have had lymph nodes or tissue removed from under the arm.

3. Select the Right Size:
  • Check the size chart provided by the brand of the breast form.
  • For the best results, a proper fit is essential when it comes to your breast form. We always recommend consulting with certified mastectomy fitters.
  • At Nightingale Medical, we offer free consultations and fittings in person. Call any of our locations or complete the form to make an appointment!
