Nurses Specializing in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC) are heroes. While they may not be featured in many television shows like Grey’s Anatomy yet, NSWOC nurses are the kind of people that go above and beyond for their clients on a daily basis. This NSWOC week, we thank NSWOCs for their dedication, particularly to our ostomy clients who we work closely with. In doing so, we want to share three reasons why we appreciate our NSWOCs, and why they are heroes in their own right.
- NSWOCs are selfless – they are willing to go the extra mile to make sure their clients are comfortable. They take the time to get to know their clients to fully understand their concerns and needs.
- NSWOCs are strong – mentally and physically, being a NSWOC is demanding. To succeed in the healthcare field, you must be brave and tough mentally for whatever situation you might be in, and NSWOCs embody that.
- NSWOCs have healing powers – they are able to expertly assess and treat a variety of issues, from chronic wounds to mental and social aspects of incontinence. They can also provide support for just about any questions that clients have about their pouching systems and provide feedback to help them feel as comfortable as they can every day.
