This week, we pay our respects for Remembrance Day 2020. Remembrance Day is an important day to celebrate our gratitude as Canadians and remember who we have lost. It can be an especially tough day for retired military personnel, as it may bring up a lot of grief and memories. One of the most prominent issues facing veterans following their years of service is suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, otherwise known as PTSD. PTSD is a condition that affects mental health and is characterized by intrusive memories, avoidance, negative moods and overall changes in reactions. Although commonly associated with military veterans, PTSD can be experienced by anyone following a traumatic event.
How can you support your mental health if you are suffering with PTSD?

- Build a network. There are support networks through the Legion, Facebook groups, support sessions, and more.
- Consider counselling - individual and family counselling can offer qualified support that you might not be able to get anywhere else.
