World Cancer Day

Every year on February 4th, people gather worldwide to build advocacy for World Cancer Day. This initiative is built on the foundation of raising awareness, improving education, and creating action by spearheading numerous campaigns across the world. Moreover, the initiative strives to create a world where millions of cancer-related deaths are preventable and where everyone is provided with equal access to life-saving treatments. This year’s campaign is “I Am, And I Will”, which recognizes that commitment to proactive action impacts everyone around us.

How you can help make an impact to support the fight against cancer

Donate to the Canadian Cancer Society

The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) has been actively contributing to reducing the burden on Canadians affected by cancer through over 300 research initiatives. The CCs also advocates for health-protecting policies and provides resourceful support channels. Making a donation to the CCS allows them to continue working to improve the survival rates of individuals diagnosed with cancer and provide trusted information. Participate in local events

Another way to support the fight against cancer is through local events in your community. The BC Cancer Foundation hosts numerous fundraising events that people can participate in throughout the year from 30-day habit changes to fitness challenges. These events are for everyone who wants to help spread awareness for cancer or just to take on a challenge for themselves. To learn more about events with the BC Cancer Foundation, click here.

Support local business initiatives

In addition to events, local businesses may also partner up with initiatives in support of fighting cancer. Nightingale has been a longtime supporter of cancer initiatives such as Cancer de Mama Clinic. Cancer de Mama Clinic is an initiative that provides relief to women affected with breast cancer by collecting gently used bras, prosthetic bras, breast forms, and lymphedema sleeves across all our locations (temporarily suspended due to COVID-19). There are very few resources offered to help women affected by breast cancer in Mexico; however, these cancer survivors have hope for the future because of the work with Cancer de Mama.
