Cancer de Mama Clinic 2020

Have you heard of the Cancer De Mama Clinic? This is an organization that holds a free clinic every year in La Penita, Mexico to provide help and supplies for breast cancer survivors. The clinic is run by over 125 dedicated Canadian, American, and Mexican volunteers and helps more than 600 women who come from near and far. The 2020 Clinic has just begun, and will run from January 31st to February 2nd.

One volunteer describes the incredible experience. In an excerpt from an article she wrote, Beautiful Boobs, Karen Stranaghan describes the hardship that breast cancer survivors face in Mexico. After their diagnosis and medical attention, there are not many services available to the women. These women are also often facing shame from their families. That is where Cancer de Mama Clinic comes in. Karen writes, “…these women have hope, and as the days progress, the rewards of our efforts shine through. As each woman is fitted with her prosthetic bra, she emerges from the fitting room, coat over her arm, like a butterfly from a cocoon. Her hands fly to her face as she realizes how beautiful she still is, then the tears overflow.”

Nightingale has supported with Cancer de Mama Clinic for the past several years through donations. One of our closest contacts has been Sandy Archer, a longtime volunteer. Sandy has kindly picked up donations from our store locations and helped to transport them to Mexico. This is just one of the many things she does for the organization. Says Sandy of her experience, “I feel a great satisfaction of connecting with and helping others, which kindles happiness within me. Volunteering at Cancer de Mama Clinic is a definite highlight.”

How Nightingale helps:
